This time of year it seems everything is peppermint flavored. There is something about the classic peppermint mocha that gets me in the mood to power through the endless to-do list, long lines, and general chaos that ensues in December. I mean really... who doesn't love a great peppermint mocha? I'll tell you. Anyone who has a clue how many calories they pack.
Seriously. A 16oz (grande) sized peppermint mocha at Starbucks has a whopping 440 calories and 15 grams of fat (10 grams of which are saturated). Whoa nelly! I think I'll pass. Fortunately there is an alternative that is equally as satisfying but won't rob you of your Christmas spirit. This updated version is made with coconut milk, cocoa powder, coconut sugar, peppermint extract, marshmallow, shaved dark chocolate... and, yes, whipped cream. Let's face it, some things just aren't worth skimping on. And yet this delicious alternative has less than half the calories of the original clocking in at just 215 calories. Add a shot or two of espresso to kick it into high gear. You can do it. Final stretch!
