Succulent terrariums are easy to grow and can be placed right inside a mason jar for a beautiful, unique gift in a jar. Plus, they’re just as fun to make as they are to give.
If you're looking for more ideas, check out our complete list of mason jar gifts for teachers, neighbors, coworkers & friends!
Here’s how to create a tiny terrarium — either for yourself or to give as a gift to a coworker, friend, neighbor or your child’s teacher.
You’ll need the following:
Start by putting a layer of pebbles or pea gravel on the bottom of the jar, which will help prevent overwatering of your plant. Next, add a layer of potting soil, followed by your succulent. Finally, top the whole thing off with a bit of moss.
Place your terrarium in a sunny window and water every two weeks or when dry. Do not over water.
Your tiny terrarium is lovely all on its own, but it will look even better topped with some rustic twine and a handmade gift tag. Instead of wasting paper or a gift bag, “wrap” it with a JarJackets silicone sleeve. It’ll look fabulous and can be reused by the recipient when taking a drink or snack on the road in a Mason jar.
Not only do JarJackets look cute, but they also protect glass from life’s inevitable bumps and slips. What’s more, JarJackets are dishwasher and microwave safe — and 100 percent non-toxic and made from earth-friendly materials.

We all like the idea of making our families healthy meals, saving money and doing our part to cut down on waste.
But we also like the idea of getting a good night’s sleep, not having a huge mess to clean up in the kitchen after dinner and — just maybe — having time to watch a bit of Netflix or read a book.
