Unique gifts in a jar are all over Pinterest these days.

That’s because anyone can pick up some lotion at Target or order a tie over Amazon. Sure, those gifts are appreciated, but they don’t delight in the way something lovely made from scratch does.

Mason Jar Gifts for Friends, Teachers or Coworkers

This Lemon Lavender Sugar Scrub, courtesy of the Food Network, sounds good enough to eat, but it’s probably better for soothing and exfoliating the skin.

You’ll need a few things to make it, including:

1 Cup sugar
1/3 Cup coconut oil, melted
1 Teaspoon dried lavender buds or 10 drops lavender essential oil
Zest of one lemon

To make the scrub, combine all ingredients and mix well. This recipe makes 1 1/3 cups, so you’ll probably need to double it, depending on what size Mason jar you’re planning on putting it in.

Decorating Unique Gifts in a Jar

Don’t bother wasting wrapping paper or a gift bag when you can dress your Mason jar up to look lovely all on its own. Use twine to attach a small wooden spoon, lavender sprig (if you have one) and a tiny bottle of lavender essential oil. You can also use one of these "Handmade" sticker templates to make a homemade gift tag to adorn the top.
